Applying firewall rules and filters for a Rust game server
In this article we will be discussing a quick and simple method of securing and setting up your firewall to whitelist and protect your Rust game-server. Please direct yourself to your filtering/firewall portal and login with the credentials you were providing during onboarding.
Ports & Filters
You'll need to open the following ports for a default Rust installation
Game Ports (port - protocol - filter)
- 28014 - udp - Source Engine Queries
- 28015 - udp - Source Engine Queries (Port Override: 28014) & Raknet (Accept Server Queries)
RCON Port (port - protocol - filter)
- 28016 - tcp - TCP Service (Symmetric)
App Port (port - protocol - filter)
- 28082 - tcp
It is recommended to enable A2S caching for the Source Engine Query filters.
